So today is the beginning of Lockdown 3 week 2 in London. This time it’s called Tier 4 which was hastily introduced from midnight on December 20th and everything but essential shops closed. All Christmas plans had to be cancelled. There’s a new more contagious variant of the virus dominating London and the South East of England. Oh well (not that I have much choice), there’s only one thing for it. Hunker down and get creative in the kitchen. And keep the tradition of Cocktail and Canape Friday going.
It’s cocktail o’clock
Today I’m making a zesty cocktail using Honey Jack Daniels, Cointreau and orange and lemon juice. All finished off with sweet and juicy maraschino cherries from Luxardo.

As well as being one of the oldest companies in Europe producing liqueurs and spirits, Luxardo is the home of the original Maraschino cherries. It’s a family business which has been going for seven generations and these cherries are delicious! Candied and soaked in Luxardo marsca cherry syrup, they have a delightful texture and above all a unique intensely cherry flavour.

Here’s a printable version of the recipe for you. Enjoy! And happy lockdown 3.

Festive citrus cocktail with Maraschino cherries
Ingredients
Method
- Add all the ingredients into a large pitcher and mush together. I used a potato masher to do this which was very effective.
- Add four large handfuls of crushed ice and stir. Allow to cool for about 15 minutes.
- Place two Maraschino cherries in the base of each martini glass.
- Pour over the liquid and add a mint leaf to finish. Serve immediately
