New London Restaurants: Kasa and Kin in Soho

So today we’re heading into the buzz of Soho, one of my favourite London areas. The people behind the wonderful Romulo in Kensington High Street have opened a new venture in Poland Street – Kasa and Kin. More delicious Filipino food for us lucky Londoners. At Kasa and Kin their aim is to create a friendly and welcoming meeting place where guests can share dishes they love while enjoying a taste of Filipino culture. The contemporary Filipinos flavours are on offer from first thing in the morning with their delectable range of bakery and patisserie treats. From lunchtime onwards the selection of savoury dishes includes Kilaw marinated style bowls, fresh rice paper spring rolls and hot dishes served with rice and noodles.

What’s on the menu

There’s a lot of menu pondering to be done. As it was our first visit we tried to sample a good selection of what’s on offer – well you have to do it properly after all. So we started with one of the Kilaw marinated style bowls dressed with a citrus and light soy dressing, coriander and lemongrass pesto, avocado and micro leaf salad. We went for the salmon fillet which is thinly sliced in cane sugar and Cornish salt flakes served on a mound of creamy avocado. It tastes as beautiful as it looks.

I love a fresh rice paper spring roll so had to try the entire trio. They are filled with crisp lettuce, shredded vegetables, coriander, chilli, ginger, soy and beansprouts  and each served with a different dip and choice of proteins. The chilli chicken come with a zesty coriander and lemongrass pesto. The spiced shrimp with. My favourite was the surprisingly tasty jackfruit and avocado mix served with a fabulous green mango and jalapeño jam. Don’t they look beautiful, too.

Hot main meals and toppings.

All mains come with a choice of steamed jasmine rice, stir fried rice noodles and pinoy green papaya salad.

We tucked into the tenderest of beef Kare Kare – slow cooked beef in a delightfully flavoursome peanut sauce.

The crispy fried chicken comes cooked with a wonderfully sweet and sour tamarind glaze. You do also have the option of collecting all your food together in a stylish Imbento box. This personalised meal includes your choice of spring roll, hot broth, rice and main course. When your box is delivered it’s a bit like opening a lovely foodie gift.

To finish we enjoyed a refreshing calamansi citrus tart. The perfect end to another lovely Filipino experience. I love that Filipino food is now firmly front of mind for me. Looking forward to trying even more of their delightful dishes. At night they light up the Pinoy Robata Grill and pledge to serve the best Filipino BBQ sticks outside of Manilla. You can even thoroughly spoil yourself with the deluxe menu which includes lobster, iberico pork loin, wagyu beef and scallops. Now you’re talking!

Here’s the striking mural that dominates one of the walls. Stunning!
