New London Restaurants: The Avocado Show

The Avocado Show is the place for me! I’ve been celebrating avocados my whole life as I was lucky enough to have an avo tree in the garden on the farm where I grew up. When they were in season I ate avo on toast for breakfast most mornings. My avo love has grown over the years as I’ve discovered so many new ways to eat this delicious, versatile fruit. Well, avocados are actually botanically classified as a large berry containing a single large seed. Glad we’ve cleared that up – let’s go and eat some tasty avo treats.

The new place in London Town is called The Avocado Show. Their goal is to ultimately share the #avolove in every cool city in the world. The company started up in Amsterdam in 2017 and as well as this new venture in London they currently have restaurants in Amsterdam, Brussels and Madrid. The menu is an inventive collection of dishes using avos in ways I’d never seen them used before in the presentation of an array of absolutely stunning looking dishes. Honestly, every plate is a work of art.

There’s plenty to choose from including an egg section, poke bowls, salads, toasts, burgers, pancakes and even desserts. We went for brunch so it would have been fundamentally wrong not to have tried their Eggs Benedict. Their Benny Boy consists of two perfectly poached eggs, bacon, mixed greens and hollandaise sauce but instead of the traditional way of serving on an English muffin, the base of the dish is – you’ve guessed it – avocado. Two avo halves to be exact which the Benedict ingredients sit on. The first of many clever avo ideas. (There is also a muffin on the side as you can see in the picture).

My lifetime love for avo on toast lead to me choosing this Truffle Treasure which takes the humble dish to new levels. The thick cut toast is covered with tasty cajun chicken which is topped with truffle mayo and parmesan as well as a generous portion of avocado. Quite simply food heaven – the ultimately indulgent toast!

We also sampled a portion of the avocado fries – panko breadcrumb-covered slices of avo served with a truffle mayo for dipping. My first tasting of avo fries, a slightly strange, though pleasant experience getting my head around eating cooked (well warm anyway) avocado. And double truffle flavours for brunch, nothing wrong with that.

Okay, full disclosure, that’s the extent of the brunch we actually ate – along with delicious coffees. But as I was oohing and aahing at every plate that appeared from the kitchen I just have to share some more of what’s on offer with you. Those chefs are serious avocado artists. Your mouth is going to be watering at the end of this! I promise.

This is the Mango Tango. Avocado and mango on a bed of curry hummus atop a slice of thick cut toast. A beautiful plate of food or what!?

And how’s this for a clever and vibrant dish!? Salamango is a salmon poke bowl with mango, edamame, wake and furikake on a bed of sushi rice. All surrounded by a perfectly symmetrical crown of thinly sliced avocado. Goodness knows how much practice the plating of this dish must have taken…

And then there was a selection of burgers. Nothing unusual about that I hear you say. Well, you’d be wrong. The burgers are served between avocado halves which are serving as the burger bun! How genius is that…a carb free burger with the addition of a whole avocado to savour. Well it would be carb free if it weren’t for the generous portion of nachos on the side.

Here’s a sideways view so you clearly get the picture. Burgers will never be the same again.

I loved everything about The Avocado Show. A cool setting, lovely friendly service and so fabulous to see one of my favourite ingredients (and they’re all sustainable, too) elevated to such heights. I’m already planning my visits to the West End around fitting in a trip to this avocado wonderland. There’s too much on the menu that needs to be tasted… Oh and here are a couple of shots inside and outside the restaurant – love the decor in shades of pink and green.

Today’s price point

Food for two for brunch came to £32.95. Portions were substantial.

The Avocado Show is at 6 Princes Street, London W1. Conveniently it is just a two-minute walk from Oxford Circus tube station.

  1. Lovely Sandy! I had tempura’d avo when in El Paso, Texas a few years which was served with a spiced mayo…Gosh it was so amazing & memorable!
