Gin cocktails – with Jaisalmer Indian Craft Gin

So we’re officially out of lockdown (sort of)! It’s been over a year.  Non-essential shops and all restaurants and bars with outside areas opened on Monday. We still can’t eat or drink inside. And yes I did go out for lunch and I am again today! More of that later.

How lovely it is to eat and drink something that I haven’t cooked or prepared myself. Though I must admit there have been some fabulous dishes and drinks coming out of my kitchen at home.

Like right now. I’m experimenting with gin. And this is not just any gin! Jaisalmer Indian Craft Gin takes its name from the historic city of Jaisalmer in north west India. The chic, frosted black bottle with its embossed gold label adds a touch of class to any liquor trolley.

Jaisalmer Indian Craft Gin is triple-distilled and handcrafted in a traditional copper pot still in small batches at the Rampur distillery which is one of India’s oldest distilleries nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas. It’s basically a classic gin made using juniper berries then flavoured using 11 botanicals (seven of which come from India) and include coriander, vetiver, sweet orange peel, cubeb berries, lemongrass, Darjeeling Green tea leaves and lemon peel. How’s that for an exotic combination? The result is a beautifully crisp and zesty gin with distinct spicy notes. The aromas and flavours of India’s spice plantations in a bottle.

Of course this amazingly aromatic gin makes a fabulous gin and tonic. Try adding slices of orange for a change, it brings out the citrussy flavours. Or why not try one of my cocktails?

Bring on the Negroni

One of my latest favourite beverages is a Negroni. It’s a classic that I’ve only recently discovered in my lockdown cocktail quest. A mix of equal portions of gin, vermouth and campari stirred over ice until chilled and served with a slice of orange. The key is to use a really good gin which is why it is so perfect made with Jaisalmer Indian Craft Gin. And it looks so beautiful too.

Fruity Gin & Lychee Martini

This is a delicate piece of tropical heaven. Simply mix equal portions of Jaisalmer Indian Craft Gin and lychee liqueur over ice. Leave for 10 minutes to chill and then serve topped up with a dash of fresh lychee juice.

You can buy lychee liqueur easily online, just google it.

Do you have a favourite gin cocktail for me to try? I’d love to hear about it.

Jaisalmer Indian Craft Gin is available from Amazon, The Whisky Exchange and Master of Malt.

Recommended price: £34.95 for a 70cl bottle.
