Terry's Spaghetti Bolognese

A classic Italian pasta dish perfected over the years

Ingredients
  

  • 1 kg beef mince
  • 3 onions large, diced
  • 4 garlic cloves large, peeled and crushed
  • 400 g white mushrooms halved and sliced
  • 4x400 g tinned tomatoes chopped
  • 300 ml tomato ketchup Heinz
  • 100 ml red wine
  • 20 bay leaves
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Method
 

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a pan and add the garlic and onions. Cook on a low heat for 10 mins.
  2. Add the sliced mushrooms and cook for 5 mins, stirring.
  3. Brown the beef mince in batches in a dry frying pan on a low heat. As each batch is brownd, add it to the onions followd by a tine of tomatoes. Continue until all the mince and tinned tomatoes have been added to the pan, stirring as you go.
  4. Once the last of the mince and tinned tomatoes have been added, pour in 300ml of Heinz tomato ketchup. Then add the red wine and stir through.
  5. Add the bay leaves, crushing them in your hands as you do and making sure they are well submerged in the sauce. Finally, add the salt and stir through.
  6. Simmer (covered) on very low for about one hour until everything is cooked through and the flavours have developed nicely.
  7. When ready cook the pasta according to the instructions on the packet and serve the bolognese sauce over it.
