Homemade wholegrain mustard with RosieMakesItEasy

Today I’m trying something completely different – making my own wholegrain mustard. I find the whole process of creating in the kitchen so relaxing and inspiring – just wish I was better at baking. But that’s a story for another day!

What better way to spend semi-lockdown time than making something tasty and beautiful? Now you can get a complete mustard-making kit delivered to your door thanks to the clever people at RosieMakesJam.┬áThe kits are Rosie’s brainchild, born out of her love of preserving. It’s a skill she learned young – helping her mother out in the kitchen. She now teaches jam and preserve making, runs her own artisan preserves business and has a fab website Lovejars.co.uk where you can buy all your preserving equipment.

My box arrived with all the ingredients perfectly packaged and beautifully colour coordinated – all in mustard. I only needed to add a bottle of beer which the black and yellow mustard seeds had to be marinated in overnight. They soon soaked up all that liquor. And don’t they look striking too?

What’s in the kit

The box comes complete with the equipment and most of the ingredients you need and mustard-making instructions. I was surprised at what an incredibly simple process it was, with no cooking involved.

Rosie makes it easy with a mustard-coloured mustard box. Love it!

And here’s a close up of the finished product. I got eight lovely jars out of my kit which are now sitting pretty in my larder as they need two weeks to mature. And then I’m really going to be cutting the mustard!

You will also find a herb preserves kit and elderflower cordial making kit on Rosie’s website.
