How I love a good bar. One that’s big enough to avoid that unpleasant pushing and bumping but not too cavernous; has music that I like and isn’t too loud to make conversation a challenge; offers friendly, efficient and as-fast-as-possible service, has tasty bar snacks that are substantial enough as a dinner substitute; serves a range of cocktails at reasonable prices (and a good selection of wine); has atmosphere…okay I’ve realised my bar criteria is becoming a blog in its own right, so I’m going to stop.
All I need to say is that I’ve discovered somewhere that meets my demanding list of bar needs. Quite astonishing, I can hear you thinking!
Jamie’s Cocktail and Spritz Bar is next door to Jamie’s Italian Angel restaurant. And it’s lovely…a buzzy, welcoming space with a huge island bar and seating all around – it’s even got booths…my very favourite! The cocktail and spritz menu has been developed in partnership with cocktail expert Simon Difford. I loved Gennaro’s sidecar of cognac, limoncello, orange liqueur and lemon juice. Love the glass too!
There’s also a menu of fabulous snacks you can order at the bar. Like scallop crudo with pomegranate, chilli, yuzu lime and coriander, crab arancini with wild garlic and lemon mayo and delectable cheesy San Daniele croquettes with minted broad bean puree. And more. The platter of cured meat was a truly fabulous carnivorous experience.
Totally delicious food, and even better, you can get free apertivo (snacks) with your drinks on Monday to Friday between 5pm and 7pm. Oh, nearly forgot, they offer the biggest selection of Grappa in London….now there’s a challenge!
Guess where you’ll find me as soon as I have a free weekday night?
Jamie’s Cocktail and Spritz bar is at 409-411 St John, Islington
